Allah Almighty chose the month of Ramadan as the time for the revelation of the Noble Qur’an. He says:
“The month of Ramadan is the one in which the Qur’an was revealed as guidance for mankind and clear proofs of guidance and the criterion.”
This clearly affirms the special status of this blessed month and its profound connection to the Book of Allah.
The Qur’an contains verses that bring tranquility to the heart; therefore, the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ regarded it as a light for the hearts, a healing for the souls, and a complete way of life. It organizes the relationship of a person with his Lord and with those around him.
In Ramadan, hearts are more receptive to the words of Allah, more inclined toward reflection upon His verses, and more willing to act upon their guidance.
The righteous predecessors honored the Qur’an greatly during Ramadan. They increased their recitation, reflected deeply upon its meanings, and made it their companion throughout the day and night. The true measure is not merely the number of completed readings, but the extent to which the Qur’an shapes behavior and morals.
Dedicating a daily portion of time in Ramadan for recitation and contemplation of the Qur’an revives the soul, instills tranquility in the heart, and strengthens the bond with Allah—so that the effects of this connection continue throughout the entire year.
